Trailer Tuesday #5

Welcome to another edition of iGR‘s Trailer Tuesday! No prizes this week since apparently all our readers are all shy wallflowers but no biggie! We’ll still deliver the best movie trailers each week and I’ll make random comments about them because it’s fun! Without further ado:

2 Guns - I’m a big Denzel Washington (Training Day) fan so I’m excited for this, even if it does feature Mark Walhberg (The Fighter). It doesn’t hurt that the premise is pretty cool and it looks like the film doesn’t take itself too seriously. It opens in theaters on August 2, 2013.

This is the End - Words cannot describe how awesome this looks. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Superbad) are making their directorial debut with this, based on a short that Rogen and Jay Baruchal (Goon) did a few years ago about hanging out during the apocalypse. They obviously expanded on the idea, bringing in a ton of their friends and other celebrities including: James Franco (Pineapple Express), Emma Watson (Harry Potter franchise), Craig Robinson (The Office), Danny McBride (Your Highness), Michael Cera (Arrested Development) and as the trailer shows, a ton of others! And they’re all playing “themselves”! Whatever your opinion of Seth Rogen and the Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) universe, this just looks like a fun film. It opens in theaters on June 14, 2013.

A Single Shot - This is pretty much just a teaser but the trailer does a good job of trying to establish the intensity of the film. I’m really looking forward to this one because Sam Rockwell (Iron Man 2) is tremendous and I wish more people were aware of that. A supporting cast that include Jeffrey Wright (Casino Royale) and William H. Macy (Fargo) certainly help the film’s chances of being pretty, as well. It doesn’t have a release date yet after premiering at the Berlin Film Festival just over two months ago. I imagine the producers are looking at a late 2013 release for Oscars season.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters - While I didn’t hate the first Percy Jackson, I am kind of surprised a sequel was made because I don’t remember it doing that well at the box office. That said, I guess something needs to replace the Harry Potter niche. Returning stars Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Alexandra Daddario (Texas Chainsaw 3D) and Brandon T. Jackson (Tropic Thunder) are joined by newcomers Nathan Fillion (Firefly) and Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games). It opens in theaters on August 16, 2013.

That’s it for this week folks but be on the lookout for the a couple of late editions of Film and TV Nerd News soon!
