Film Nerd News #3

Welcome to this week’s edition of iGR’s Film Nerd News. For those of you keeping track at home, this is our third entry. Pretty rad right? Sure is, Keanu. Anyways, without further ado, the best in this week’s movie news!

3/4 - Harrison Ford joins ANCHORMAN 2

  • As if the fact that we were getting more Ron Burgandy wasn’t enough, the producers of Anchorman 2 had to go and cast Harrison Ford as a legendary anchorman? I have some doubts about how well the film will do this long after the first one but news like this definitely makes me more optimistic.

3/4 - Rebecca Hall joins TRANSCENDENCE

  • Looks like Hall (The Town, The Prestige) is becoming quite popular because she also has a role in the upcoming Iron Man 3. She joins the previously cast Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany, adding another name to a solid ensemble for Wally Pfister‘s directorial debut. I’m definitely looking forward to this film.

3/6 - Sam Mendes won’t direct BOND 24 afterall

  • Even after apparently coming up with a solid story for the next Bond film, Sam Mendes (Skyfall, American Beauty) doesn’t appear to be returning to the director’s chair. Still, given the success of Skyfall, it would be wise to keep Mendes involved in some capacity, having crafted one of the best Bond movies ever. With Mendes out, it will be interesting to see who they can recruit to helm the next film because they have a lot of pressure on them to deliver another fantastic Bond film. I’d love to see Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting) given a chance, especially after he directed the Bond sequence for the Olympics. In a perfect world though, they’d go after a dark horse like Brad Anderson (The Machinest, Transsiberian).

3/8 - Christopher Nolan’s INTERSTELLAR gets a release date

  • Looks like things are moving pretty quickly for Christopher Nolan‘s (The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception) next directorial effort as Interstellar has been given a November 7, 2024 release date. If it wasn’t clear before, I’m a huge fan of Nolan’s so I’ll have this date engrained in my brain for awhile in anticipation of its release. We’ll definitely keep you posted on any casting news for this film.

3/8 - Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day still have HORRIBLE BOSSES

  • Ever since Horrible Bosses became a box office hit, there’s been rumors of a possible sequel but it wasn’t until Friday that the original cast of Jason Bateman (Arrested Development, Hancock), Jason Sudeikis (Saturday Night Live) and Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) were confirmed to return. Jamie Foxx (Ray, Django Unchained) is also in talks to reprise his role from the original as well. I’m not entirely sure how a sequel will work but given the talent involved, I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Still, this very well could end up being nothing more than a cash grab and if that’s the case, we’ll end up with a bad movie.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to check out next week’s Film Nerd News! In the mean time, be on the lookout for my other articles TV Nerd News and Trailer Tuesday!
