So we all know what Kickstarter is by now. It’s a platform that can help to green light projects without huge publishers getting involved. Just about everyone knows about the OUYA console that was funded via Kickstarter. It’s an Android based home gaming console with a more traditional style controller.
Now that we’re done talking about things we actually know something about let’s talk about things we don’t (well most of us at least). Ever heard of the eSfere?
The eSfere was supposed to be direct competition to OUYA’s cube. eSfere surprisingly boasted some pretty meaty specifications, such as:
- HD Visuals (720p)
- Tegra 3 Quad-Core Processor
- 2GB Ram
- 16GB Internal storage
- Multi-Touch, Touchscreen Controller (similar to Wii U)
- Full support for the Google Play Store
One more thing that you probably haven’t heard of (or may have) indiegogo.com and their funding efforts. indiegogo is designed to give Kickstarter some competition, but just as obvious as the eSfere and OUYA “competition” indiegogo didn’t catch on as much as Kickstarter. My final question is: Would we know a bit more about eSfere if they had gone with Kickstarter? Smart money says yes, and we may even actually have this competition for the Android home console market. The eSfere’s specs outweigh OUYA at almost every turn, but had you heard of it prior to reading this article?
We’ll end on a somber note by taking a look at eSfere’s indiegogo campaign.
