If you’re anything like me then you’ve too have been incredibly curious to see what Christopher Nolan would do now that he’s done doing his Batman thing. There was a rumor that Warner Bros. wanted him to helm their upcoming Twilight Zone reboot but other than that, the only confirmed post-Batman projects have been Nolan’s involvement as producer of long-time cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, Transcendence, and producer/co-writer of the upcoming Superman reboot, Man of Steel.
However, that all changed two days ago when it was announced that Nolan was in negotiations to direct Interstellar, a sci-fi film that was written by his brother, frequent collaborator and Person of Interest creator, Jonathan Nolan. Inspired by the work of acclaimed Caltech physicist Kip Thorne, it features a group of explorers going through a wormhole that deals with some pretty simple concepts like time travel and alternate dimensions. However, yesterday news broke that he was also re-writing the script to incorporate an original of his own. Take what you will from the generic plotline provided earlier but keep in mind that it may not be indicative of the final product. After all, Inception‘s plotline was once described as “a film placed within the architecture of the mind” and it turned out to be a bit more complicated than that. Either way, it should be quite the event, much like most of Nolan’s work.
It’s interesting to note that Interstellar was once one of the seemingly million projects that Steven Spielberg had lined-up prior to him finally getting recent Best Picture nominee Lincoln off of the ground.
